. I witnessed this nurse take a bad situation and turn it into a good friendship.
Sulma had to move a cranky old retired orthopedic surgeon who had broken his hip and didn't want to exercise or move. He told her he was mad at her for hurting him. She looked at him and said she was sorry, but this doctor knew he needed to be turned to keep bed sores down. She went right on and pleasantly moved him.
Sulma was very empathetic and kind with an attitude of helpfulness. Sulma praised this grumpy, hurting retired doctor. When Sulma came back a few minutes later, she asked Dr. S if he was still mad at her. He said "no", that he knew she was just doing her job. Sulma told Dr. S she was worried that he was mad, and they laughed together and became working friends.
Dr. S liked her so well that he told her to stay in touch since they both lived in Grand Prairie. Sulma took a bad, cranky attitude and converted it by being kind, considerate, and empathetic. Sulma is a good nurse who cares about her patients. I know it is difficult to treat physicians sometimes because I live with him. I witnessed this nurse take a bad situation and turn it into a good friendship.
It is nurses like Sulma that hospitals need. I can sum up Sulma in two words: empathetic, kind, and gracious.
Thank you, Sulma, for a job well done with a difficult patient!
