Working with patients, she proved to be incredibly knowledgeable and wise while also beautifully empathetic and kind.
I had a few shifts orienting in the NICU (I work on pediatrics), and Ashley was wonderful in helping me learn. She exemplified excellent patient care, was exceptionally kind to parents/visitors, and was patient with me as I learned.
She gave me space as I learned to practice independently while always being more than willing to answer my questions, model a skill for me, and help me grow as a new grad RN. I so appreciate the care she shows for her patients and for the care she showed me as I learned. Throughout each night shift, I was oriented by Ashley, who showed me how to work diligently and efficiently in the NICU.
She explained what care times were and what was involved, how to assess a neonate, charting, and helped me learn skills I was familiar with in working with adults and pediatric patients but hadn't seen in neonates, like inserting NG tubes and managing respiratory equipment (from nasal cannulas to bubble CPAP). She encouraged me to seek out opportunities to learn, whether hands-on or observing. She helped me step outside of my comfort zone and grow in confidence.
Working with patients, she proved to be incredibly knowledgeable and wise while also beautifully empathetic and kind. She talked and sang to the babies, soothing them. She assessed and re-assessed with precision and detail. She troubleshooted and problem-solved issues like feeding difficulties and ensuring comfort if a baby seemed fussy or difficult to console. She ensured parents, if present, were up to date on plans of care and was equally as caring and kind towards them. She was quick to respond to emergent situations while remaining calm.
I learned a great deal from Ashley! She is an extraordinary RN, and I'm grateful to work alongside her.
