Lauren leads by example and gives back to the nursing profession by precepting not only new nurses but also last-semester nursing students.
Lauren is one of the most caring people I know, and I feel extremely lucky to have her on my team. She consistently goes out of her way to provide comfort to our most vulnerable patients. Last week, we had a patient who was very confused, and a sitter case was ordered. The patient did well if she kept busy, walking around the unit, making her bed, folding laundry, etc. Lauren took it upon herself to wheel the patient outside for some needed fresh air. Lauren was the Charge RN that day, and this was not even her assigned patient. Further emphasizing Lauren's caring attitude, she didn't even let me know that this was what she was doing for the patient. I only knew because I saw her leaving the unit with the patient, and she told me. Lauren had already informed the care team, of course.
Later that day, we received a new patient transferred from another facility. Lauren and I reviewed the case and decided to proactively open a sitter case for the patient due to several safety issues. The patient arrived in the early afternoon, and we did not have coverage for the safety case at that time. Lauren again took it upon herself to monitor the patient. I was assisting with an ART in a different room when I saw her wheeling the new admit up and down the halls in his wheelchair. Lauren was talking with him, asking about his life, and positively distracting him. Lauren must have taken the patient on upwards of 1O laps around the unit with how many times J saw the two of them roll I could list so many other times that Lauren acts this way, but in truth, I would write a novel.
Lauren is a unique find and very deserving of positive recognition. She started in our unit as a student and has developed into an exceptional charge RN. Lauren leads by example and gives back to the nursing profession by precepting not only new nurses but also last-semester nursing students. I bring this up because I feel it is vital that caring nurses like Lauren lead and teach our next generation of nurses. Thank you, Lauren, for your kindness and compassion that you bring to your patients, your team, and all those you interact with. You are truly an incredible person. by. She kept him safe and distracted until help arrived.
