Kamryn embodies the values of nursing and represents the future of our profession with excellence.
I am honored to nominate Kamryn Etter for the DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassion, courage, and professionalism she demonstrated during a Code Blue event in the MRI department. From the beginning of her clinical rotation, Kamryn has shown a remarkable eagerness to learn, especially in high-acuity situations. She has consistently expressed a strong desire to participate in a Code Blue should the opportunity arise— not out of excitement, but out of a genuine commitment to being part of a team that saves lives. She has studied, asked questions, and prepared herself with intention, always demonstrating maturity beyond her status as a student nurse.
Her moment came when a patient coded in the MRI department. Without hesitation, she positioned herself with the team, maintaining composure and professionalism while waiting for her turn to contribute. When it was time to step in, she performed high-quality chest compressions with focus and confidence. During her compressions, the patient achieved return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). Afterward, she described the experience as the most meaningful moment of her clinical experience —a reflection not of adrenaline, but of the deep purpose she feels in becoming a nurse. She recognized the gravity of the situation, the privilege of being trusted, and the impact she was able to make in a critical moment. In what could have easily been an overwhelming situation for any nursing student, she demonstrated initiative, calmness, teamwork, and exceptional professionalism. Her actions not only contributed to a successful patient outcome but also exemplified the spirit of nursing: stepping forward with courage, compassion, and skill when patients need us most. Kamryn embodies the values of nursing and represents the future of our profession with excellence.
