She is constantly striving to improve our patient care and elevate staff morale.
Tiffany Whitney is undoubtedly the best manager I have ever had a chance to work for. She demonstrates so much commitment to both the staff on our unit and Nebraska Medicine.

One of the most consistent remarks I hear from travelers and newer staff is that they are impressed with the presence of leadership on our unit. Tiffany leads by example here. She adjusts her hours so that she regularly interacts with the night shift. I often see her coming in at 0500 or staying later to touch base at 1900. She has filled in on Saturday night shifts when we are short-staffed, and drops in on Sundays once in a while to see weekenders. It really gives everyone a chance to feel like they get face time with her, and for her to get to know them personally.

Tiffany really encourages her staff to grow as nurse leaders. She provides a lot of unique opportunities with our unit being offered as a pilot unit, and as a result, both leads and staff nurses get so much input on changes being made to nursing practices throughout the hospital. When she identifies leadership qualities in a staff member, she works with them individually to develop those qualities, whether it’s through preceptorship or cross-training in other roles or locations. She encourages us to resolve issues on our own, but is always supportive when we need her to step in.

Additionally, Tiffany is a compassionate leader who truly wants to help her staff. Earlier this year, I discovered my dog having a life-threatening emergency as I was leaving for work. I panicked while driving to the vet hospital because I knew I had to be at work soon, but I wasn’t in a position to find replacements. I called Tiffany, and she calmed me down and told me to focus on my family; she would handle the work. She arranged for someone to stay late so I could prioritize and not worry about what was happening with work. She followed up with me later about everything, and I really felt like she cared about me as more than just a warm body filling the position.

I’ve encountered this a lot over the time I’ve worked with Tiffany. She provides compassion and understanding. She works with staff who are experiencing issues, and on the other side of that, she somehow knows when to draw the line and decide someone isn’t working out for our unit. She is constantly striving to improve our patient care and elevate staff morale. She has adapted to so many changes through COVID, and I’m really proud to say I work with her.
