That kind of collaboration made a real difference, and it’s rare to find someone who balances clinical excellence with a true commitment to mentoring the next generation of nurses.
As a nursing instructor, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many nurses in clinical settings over the years, but Nurse Otha stands out in a way few others ever have. From day one, Otha has gone above and beyond in working with my students. He is kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable—not just in his clinical skills, but in his ability to teach.
He took time with each student, never rushed their questions, and created an environment where they felt safe to learn, try, and grow. What impressed me most was how consistently he communicated with me. He kept me updated on how the students were doing, what they were accomplishing, and what areas they could continue to develop. That kind of collaboration made a real difference, and it’s rare to find someone who balances clinical excellence with a true commitment to mentoring the next generation of nurses.
My students would regularly ask—even beg—to be assigned to Otha. They learned so much from him, and I could see their confidence and skills improve after just a single shift with him. That kind of impact is hard to measure, but it’s incredibly valuable.
Beyond his work with students, Otha is just a phenomenal nurse. His patients trust him, his team respects him, and it’s easy to see why. He brings compassion, competence, and professionalism to everything he does.
In my career as a nursing instructor, Otha is easily the best nurse I’ve ever had students follow. Deaconess would be lucky to have him full-time—he’s the kind of nurse who raises the standard for everyone around him.
