Our twins were admitted to the NICU at Laredo Medical Center. They were born six weeks premature, and we had no idea what to expect. From the moment we arrived, the entire NICU staff was nothing short of extraordinary. The entire unit was caring, empathetic, intelligent, and incredibly supportive, answering every question (no matter how crazy) with patience and kindness. Our twins spent two weeks in the NICU, initially on CPAP machines, receiving IV fluids, and using feeding tubes. Seeing your babies connected to so many medical devices is overwhelming, but Dr. C and Dr. Z were incredibly encouraging and informative. Their kindness and patience meant the world to us. Dr. Z, especially in those final days, took the time to sit with us, explain their progress in detail, and guide us on the best steps forward for our preemies. The nurses became our best friends. Please tell them we love them! There were three nurses in particular who became our pediatric soulmates: Elizabeth, Krystal, and Jose. They sat with us, problem-solved alongside us, cared for our children (and us!), and somehow even made us laugh during those difficult two weeks. There is nothing worse than having your children in the NICU, but there is also nothing more reassuring than knowing they are receiving the best care possible. Krystal shared stories about her son, offering comfort and perspective from her own experience, and was always on top of it. Elizabeth became like family, tirelessly working with our babies to help them progress. She was relentless in her advocacy for them, making sure they were a top priority and showering them with extra love to help them improve. Jose brought warmth and humanity, sharing stories about his four daughters and his love for photography, making the long days feel a little easier. This team is nothing short of miracle workers—a perfect combination of skill, experience, practical knowledge, and just genuinely incredible people. Please do something special for them, acknowledge their outstanding care, or let us know how we can contribute to making sure they feel truly appreciated. They deserve it.
