Maddie embodies the values of compassion, advocacy, and leadership in every aspect of her nursing career, but most importantly in her role as president of the Student Nurses Organization. She demonstrates genuine care for all people, approaching peers with kindness, respect, and empathy.
Maddie has ensured that everyone feels welcomed and included, especially on our executive board within the Student Nurses Organization. She is a strong advocate, both within and beyond the club. Maddie speaks up for her peers, supports the club through challenges we have faced, and encourages others to do the same. She models the importance of standing up for herself, the things you care about!
Her leadership has been necessary for this organization. Maddie took on the difficult task of reorganizing and building our organization. Through persistence, she cleaned up our systems, created new opportunities for involvement, and established a more supportive, bonded nursing community. I am very grateful to have been a part of the organization while Maddie led. She's doing a great job and should be recognized for the amount of stress and hard work she has put in.

Maddie has been a great peer to look up to. Being on the board of SNO has truly strengthened and expanded my leadership skills thanks to Maddie. She has taken on this year so professionally and has brought the organization together.
Maddie works extremely hard regardless of the work and commitments she has outside of SNO, and it shows in her presence as a president, leading the rest of the exec to success in our positions as well as all nursing students.
She brings a huge group of people together, giving us all a safe space to reset and disconnect from all other stressors. It is clear Maddie wants everyone around her to succeed as future nurses.

Madison Wirchansky brings exceptional compassion, advocacy, and leadership to the nursing profession. During Madison's sophomore year as a nursing student, Madison attended meetings and activities of the Student Nurses Organization. She volunteered and was nominated to serve as the Vice President the following year.
During Madison's junior year as a nursing student, Madison demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities. She led by example by motivating peers and supporting teamwork. She developed creative initiatives that she presented to the SNO Executive Board. Madison encouraged all nursing students to become involved in SNO activities. She increased the enrollment in SNO activities at monthly meetings and fundraisers.
She advocated for her peers by planning social activities for student nurses to participate in. She saw a lack of self-care amongst her peers and wanted to encourage them to take care of themselves. Some of Maddie's goals as Vice President and now as President are the following: to promote self-care of the student nurse by hosting activities to help reduce stress; to enhance the nursing school environment by strengthening support systems amongst peers; and to demonstrate commitment to personal health and well-being to promote resilience and prevent burnout.
Maddie took the lead in mentoring three underclassmen SNO nursing students to create a poster entitled, "From Burnout to Balance: Promoting Self-Care for Nursing Students." A survey was conducted amongst the nursing students who attended the planned activities throughout the year, and the results were presented on the poster.
In April 2024, Maddie and the other three students attended the National Student Nurses Association Convention in Seattle, Washington, where they presented their poster. Their work attracted the attention of Sigma Theta Tau International President, Sandra Bibb, who was so impressed with their work and poster that she wanted to pose with Maddie and the student in front of their poster. Maddie got to share the background of the work and the success of the initiatives.
Currently, Maddie serves as the President of SNO. She has increased enrollment in NSNA this past year. She, along with her peers, actively participates in the Brandywine School District Lifesavers Program with outreach to underrepresented middle and high schoolers who are interested in a career in healthcare. Maddie conducts the monthly meetings of SNO and also holds meetings with her executive board to plan activities for this school year.
Maddie is a strong advocate for providing for those with food insecurities, as she plans a large food drive for the month of October for all underclassmen to participate in. Maddie is a strong leader. After networking with a nursing student in Tennessee, Maddie instituted a program in SNO meetings, "Future Florence," where students can give a shout-out to fellow nursing students and tell why they have been doing a great job in the nursing program.
Maddie is set apart as a student leader but reflects the potential to become a compassionate and effective nurse who will positively impact the future of healthcare.
