Geri is by far the most caring, compassionate nurse around. I felt like she listened to everything I said. She acted on everything we discussed in a timely, confident, and graceful manner. I was admitted from the ER after experiencing a code stroke. I was terrified about what was going to happen during my hospital stay. Geri helped me calm down. She made me feel comfortable and confident. She has a way of putting you at ease with her calm yet playful demeanor.
I had 2 other issues besides the TIA that were causing pain. She notified the physician on call to order something for my severe shoulder pain. When she read the order, she felt he medication that was ordered would not sufficiently control my pain, so she became my advocate, explaining this to the physician. The physician listened and ordered stronger medication.
I was also suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome at the time. Hearing this, she took it upon herself to go to the ER to get the proper wrist splint. The medication and splint helped me with my pain issues. I was then able to sleep. I needed surgery and she helped me calm down with her playful manner I was laughing by the end of her shift, and I looked forward to her returning the next night. I am a super nervous person, but I felt at ease when she was there.
Since SSU is a unit where patients go while waiting for a bed, the bed board found me a bed in a unit where my patients go after leaving the ICU. Yes, I am a nurse, and I work in the trauma ICU at Christ. She felt that it might be a conflict of interest if I were admitted to that unit where potential patients that I cared for might be. She worked hard to keep me in SSU until my surgery. She was successful!
All I have to say is thank you so much for being the nurse that you are! Geri went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and cared for. I was part of her "nurse family". Geri is the best!
