Kierra Guthrie is simply amazing. As first‐time parents, when our birth plan went completely out the window due to safety concerns, we were overwhelmed, exhausted, and had been awake for over 24 hours when we first met her. We also had a newborn and countless questions about both mom’s recovery and the baby’s health.
From the moment she stepped into our room, Kierra listened to us, responded to our questions with compassion and kindness, and took the time to explain everything she was doing before she did it. Whether it was taking our baby to the nursery and walking us through his breathing and wheezing concerns, or her helping mom out of bed and encouraging her to push through the pain to make progress towards recovery, her calm presence and clear communication helped us feel informed and involved, not just as patients, but as new parents learning to navigate our new life.
Kierra built a connection with us that felt natural and sincere. We found ourselves specifically asking for her, even waiting a few extra minutes to speak with her when she was busy with other patients, because we trusted her judgment completely. She kept our family updated and didn’t just answer concerns; she explained the reasoning behind every recommendation and how it would help our baby. Kierra made us feel safe to ask questions and empowered us to be our baby’s advocates.
Although she was only with us for one day at the start of our recovery stay, seeing her return as our nurse on discharge day truly felt like seeing an old friend— we were so happy, but sad to part ways! While many wonderful nurses, practitioners, and techs helped make our stay at Northside a positive one, Kierra left a lasting mark. Her care, her heart, and her way of making us feel seen and supported made a real difference during our stay, and if we ever return to Northside for services, we sincerely hope we see her again. Kierra provides amazing and caring work that is important, and many people need nurses like her in this world.
We thank Kierra and wish her nothing but success as she continues fulfilling her purpose!
