She took the time to not only explain everything that she was doing, but also to establish a rapport with my daughter and make a very scary experience, feel less frightening, and confusing to her.
My adult daughter, who has an intellectual disability, was brought to the ER due to severe abdominal pain. When she was admitted and brought to the room, this nurse was there and was very calming and reassuring. She took the time to not only explain everything that she was doing, but also to establish a rapport with my daughter and make a very scary experience, feel less frightening, and confusing to her.
For example, she explained what was going to happen and each medication that she was giving. She was assigned to be my daughter‘s nurse several more days during our long stay and she was always helpful, responsive, attentive, and caring, as well as extremely competent. She took the time to get to know my daughter and identify things they had in common and shared interests, which made my daughter feel more comfortable and more like a valued individual rather than just another patient on the floor.
She also did her best to respond efficiently to any request or need that we had. For example, when we asked that the bed linens be changed, and all of the techs were busy, she stepped in and did it without hesitation, even though she had a lot on her plate as well.
We are so grateful for the excellent, efficient, and personal level of care she provided and want her to know that she truly made a difference in our lives.
