Professor Jothikumar embodies all the qualities of an extraordinary nursing educator. She is caring, patient, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to her students.

1st Nomination
There was a moment early in the semester when many of us in the class were feeling overwhelmed and unsure of ourselves as we began to learn complex nursing skills. One student in particular was visibly anxious during a sterile dressing change simulation, and Professor Ramola immediately stepped in not to take over, but to guide with calm reassurance. She knelt beside the student, maintained eye contact, and said, “You already have what it takes to do this let’s walk through it together.” Her words weren’t just encouragement; they were a turning point. Not only did that student complete the skill successfully, but the entire class felt a wave of confidence from witnessing her patience and belief in our ability to grow.

Professor Ramola consistently embodies professionalism and care. She treats every student with fairness and respect, no matter their background or learning pace. Her passion for nursing is contagious, and her teaching style creates a safe, motivating environment where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities rather than failures. She brings warmth, empathy, and clarity into every lesson, and her impact reaches far beyond the classroom. That single moment in lab was just one of many where her compassion and skill shaped not only our learning but also our belief in ourselves as future nurses.

2nd Nomination
During my first semester of nursing school, I had the privilege of being taught by Professor Ramola Jothikumar, and I can confidently say she made a lasting impact on both my education and personal growth. Entering nursing school can be intimidating, but her guidance, support, and passion for the profession truly set the tone for what nursing is all about.

One moment that stands out was during our very first clinical rotation. Many of us were nervous, unsure, and overwhelmed. But Professor Jothikumar brought a sense of calm, confidence, and clarity to each day. She shared real-life nursing stories that weren’t just informative. They were deeply inspiring. Each story became a teachable moment, helping us understand not only the clinical skills but also the heart and humanity behind the profession.

She always made us feel seen, heard, and supported. Her enthusiasm for teaching and nursing was contagious, and she had a special way of motivating us even on our toughest days. She treated every student with fairness and respect, and created an environment where questions were encouraged and learning felt safe.

Professor Jothikumar embodies all the qualities of an extraordinary nursing educator. She is caring, patient, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to her students. She made our first clinical experience one we will never forget, and she has truly been a role model of what it means to be a nurse. I am incredibly grateful to have learned from her.

3rd Nomination
During my clinical rotation, Professor Ramola made a meaningful difference in both my learning and my confidence as a nursing student. One moment that stands out was when I was assigned to care for a post-surgical patient who was anxious, in pain, and hesitant to ambulate for the first time. I felt nervous about encouraging the patient, worried I might say or do the wrong thing. Professor Ramola noticed my hesitation and, instead of stepping in and taking over, she gently guided me. She first modeled how to communicate with the patient speaking with empathy, explaining each step clearly, and creating a safe, trusting environment. Then she encouraged me to take the lead, staying close enough to support me if needed.

With her encouragement, I was able to successfully help the patient ambulate, which became a huge confidence booster for me. Afterward, Professor Ramola debriefed with me, highlighting my strengths while giving constructive feedback in a way that motivated me to grow. This moment reflected everything that makes her extraordinary as a faculty member: her patience, fairness, integrity, and her ability to make students feel respected and capable. She embodies the qualities of a professional nurse and an inspiring educator, and her enthusiasm for teaching has left a lasting impact on my nursing journey.
