I delivered my firstborn baby at St David’s. He was urgently transferred to Dell Children’s overnight for a required surgery, and I was stuck at St David’s overnight while my baby was somewhere else. It was a very scary feeling. I was able to be discharged early that next morning, a little over 12 hours after giving birth.

I was determined to see my baby before he went to surgery, but the clock was ticking. I was walking through the doors as they were wheeling my son back to surgery. Nicole made the surgery team wait so that I could hold him. It was the most magical feeling. I will never forget how she made me feel in that moment. When I was holding him, I felt such ease and love before he had to leave me.

Nicole P was one of our primary nurses after that, and she always advocated for us. She always told me what to ask for, too. She helped us take beautiful photos of our son before he got a nasogastric tube (which we still have 5 months later), so we still cherish those photos of nothing on his face. I work in healthcare as a nurse, and Nicole is such an inspiration to me. I am better because of her.
