In a time when our world felt like it was falling apart, Tory became a source of strength and comfort.
Tory was a happy and outgoing force; the kind of person whose warmth filled the room the moment she walked in. She had an incredibly kind nature, and from the very beginning, she ensured my grandmother felt safe, cared for, and free from pain.
Just a couple of weeks ago, my family and I received the devastating news that my grandmother has small-cell carcinoma. Soon after, she was admitted to the hospital for atrial fibrillation, and in just a matter of days, she went from being the independent, active woman we knew to needing assistance with almost everything.
It took two long weeks to finally get her heart rate under control, and in that time, Southeast Health became a second home to us. The nurses there became like family, and Tory was one of the brightest lights in those difficult nights. She was our night nurse most evenings, and from the very first time we met her, she made an unforgettable impression.
That first night, she came in with a bright smile, introduced herself, and immediately brought a sense of comfort and hope. She didn’t just check vitals or adjust medications; she stayed to talk, to listen, to laugh. She treated my grandmother with the dignity and tenderness she deserved, and she treated my family with the same compassion.
In a time when our world felt like it was falling apart, Tory became a source of strength and comfort. She reminded us that even in the most difficult circumstances, kindness can make all the difference. For that, we will be forever grateful.
Tory, you were more than a nurse to us; you were a friend, a supporter, and a bright light in a dark time. Thank you for caring for my grandmother as if she were your own, and for caring for our hearts along the way. We will never forget you.
