It is with great pride and enthusiasm that we nominate Katherine (Kate) Campos, MSN, RN, Critical Care Clinical Specialist, for the DAISY Educator Award. Kate’s exceptional leadership, steadfast commitment to excellence, and dedication to Overlook Medical Center (OMC), the Critical Care Departments, and the nursing division across Atlantic Health System exemplify the highest standards of professional nursing practice.

A highly respected clinical expert, Kate has made significant contributions to improving patient outcomes, advancing professional development, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across the organization. Known for her quick thinking, calm demeanor, and ability to navigate complex situations with confidence and grace, she is a trusted leader and resource throughout OMC and the Atlantic Health System.

Kate’s collaborative spirit and deep clinical expertise have made her an indispensable contributor to numerous site and system-wide initiatives. She serves as chair of the OMC Critical Care Quality Committee and the Rapid Response Committee and actively participates in multiple efforts, including the AHS Nurse Residency Program, AHS Critical Care Practice Council, AHS House Value Analysis Committee, OMC Shared Governance Quality, OMC HAI Committee, OMC Educators Committee, OMC NWESC, and OMC IMCU, among others. Her leadership in these forums has shaped policies, strengthened nursing education, and advanced quality improvement initiatives that have measurably enhanced patient outcomes.

Through Kate’s continued leadership of OMC’s Rapid Response program, thousands of lives have been positively impacted. Her ability to mentor and guide multidisciplinary teams through high-pressure emergencies brings reassurance, clarity, and expert direction to all involved. In moments of crisis, her presence is met with visible relief—her steady guidance and clinical expertise consistently help teams navigate even the most challenging situations.

Her influence is equally evident in quality improvement efforts, particularly in implementing the AACN Critical Care Liberation Bundle (ABCDEF Bundle) across OMC’s critical care units. This initiative has improved patient outcomes, strengthened interdisciplinary collaboration, and empowered teams to deliver holistic, patient-centered care.

Kate is also an extraordinary educator and mentor. Her teaching style is clear, organized, and engaging, with a focus on helping learners understand not only what to do, but why it matters. She provides a safe environment for inquiry, fostering confidence and competence in those she mentors. She plays a pivotal role in AHS and OMC’s Hire Learner/Nurse Residency and Critical Care Nurse Fellowship programs, guiding new nurses with compassion and expertise. Most recently, she shared her expertise on the national stage at the AACN National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition, presenting “Helping New Critical Care Nurses Find the Courage to Soar: An Innovative Approach to Orientation.”

Katherine Campos’s unwavering dedication, transformational leadership, and collaborative approach embody the essence of nursing excellence. Her work has left an enduring mark on patient care, professional practice, and interdisciplinary teamwork, making her an exemplary and truly deserving recipient of the DAISY Educator Award.
