I am writing to enthusiastically nominate Hannah Revell, a nurse at the OKC VAMC Community Living Center (CLC), for the DAISY Award. During my time at the CLC, Hannah consistently demonstrated extraordinary compassion and dedication. She didn't just perform her duties; she provided genuine comfort and care that made a significant difference in my recovery and well-being. One particular instance that stands out is when I was struggling with severe pain, profound anxiety about my condition, difficulty sleeping, and adjusting to new medication. Hannah immediately noticed my distress. She sat by my bedside, listened intently to my concerns without rushing me, and took the time to explain my treatment plan in a way I could finally understand. Her calm demeanor and personal attention made me feel truly seen and cared for, not just as a patient, but as a person. She also worked diligently to adjust my pain management and help me find comfort so I could get much-needed rest. Hannah also consistently went above and beyond, particularly with her exceptional clinical skill. For instance, after my nephrostomy, I was experiencing significant leaking from the site, which was causing me considerable discomfort and anxiety. Hannah applied her unique experience and expertise in placing a specific series of bandages and tape to ensure my post-nephrostomy stopped leaking and developed a strong scab. Her meticulous care in this regard was remarkable. When she removed these dressings a few days later, she did so with such precision and gentle technique that it did not disrupt the healing process at all. This specific action provided immediate relief and significantly contributed to my recovery. Her clinical skills are impeccable, but it's her humanity and empathy that truly set her apart. Hannah always communicated clearly, keeping me informed about my care in a way that was easy to understand.
