She made sure that my daughter was heard in an intimidating world of adults.
My daughter is admitted to the pediatric department. Her nurse, Daelynn, has been a Godsend to her. After a different nurse gave her a medication that was not meant for her, Daelynn was quick to reassure my daughter that she would be safe in her care. Not only did she make her feel secure, but she also took my daughter seriously when it came to all of her concerns and needs. Daelynn went above and beyond her call to make sure my daughter’s needs, even her wants, were met. Most of all, she made sure that my daughter was heard in an intimidating world of adults.
Not only did she help my daughter, she helped me. As a nurse, it is always hard to watch someone else care for a loved one. It becomes increasingly concerning when an error is made against your child. Daelynn was not the nurse to make the mistake, but she ultimately had to be the nurse to clean up the mistake. She did the best she could do in such a terrible situation, and I commend her greatly for a job well done. Knowing the parent is in healthcare and knowing there was an error is never an easy task to take on. I’m positive she was sweating hard coming into our room, but she made it seem cool, calm, and collected every time. She heard my concerns and she advocated for my daughter and me to the providers who didn’t seem to hear us. I really feel like she found her calling in pediatrics, and she should be commended on a job well done. I can’t imagine that we are the only family she has done this for. You can tell by the way she holds herself that she really cares about her patients and their families and that she would help them to the best of her ability every time.
Thank you, Daelynn, for everything you’ve done for us.

I chose to nominate Daelynn. She has been an exceptional nurse and is always positive and on top of things for me. She is a great nurse to have around, especially when you’re not feeling your best.
