I have never experienced nursing care like Sydney provided. I felt like she was my best friend, and my mother-in-law's best friend.
Sydney was my mother-in-law's nurse for 4 days. Her care was extraordinary to my mother-in-law and to me as a family member. After a very recent scary stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis, a difficult first round of chemo that ended in a decision not to continue anymore, a pulmonary embolism, and being transferred from another ER, Sydney was the light at the end of a dark 3-week period.
We were not getting any answers, assistance with next steps, care and compassion for my mother in law, and emotional support for me as the primary care giver. I met Sydney before my mother-in-law arrived from a transfer, and from the start she was made me feel like it just might be okay.
Anything we needed, medically or emotionally, Sydney was there. She made sure we understood what was happening and why and found the Doctor when she was needed. I always knew Sydney was in our corner. My mother-in-law has a port, which Sydney accessed perfectly, but she needed another IV and Sydney tried so hard to get a vein without causing too much trauma to my already traumatized mother-in-law. No one else took that amount of time and care with her.
My mother-in-law texted me one morning and said, "Can you bring me Dunkin Donuts coffee? Sydney said I could have it." I just had to laugh because we trusted Sydney and if she said it, it could be trusted. I have never experienced nursing care like Sydney provided. I felt like she was my best friend, and my mother-in-law's best friend. I cannot thank Sydney enough for what she provided to us. We will forever be grateful.
