She takes her role as an Educator very seriously, including being a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, and leader. Nurses educated by Miri feel confident, are competent, and emulate empathy as she does.  
Miri has consistently used her experience as an APRN in practice settings and now as a Nurse Educator for the past several years to inspire new nurses at all levels to always aspire to provide skilled and compassionate care to patients and their families. Miri serves as an educator and mentor. She takes her role as an Educator very seriously, including being a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, and leader. Nurses educated by Miri feel confident, are competent, and emulate empathy as she does.  Miri loves learning and passes on this attribute to her students and mentees. Miri builds a collaborative relationship with her students and colleagues, using collaborative support meetings to advance learning and competency development.  Miri makes a difference in the lives of staff and patients.

As APP Educator Miri has developed a high-level orientation program for new APPs at MCI. She takes a personal, professional approach to everything she does. She teaches classes and participates in research to advance cancer care.  She is preceptor to new APPs and educators to learn their roles. She has CSM meetings to monitor and support new hires. She is always available to answer questions or just to chat. She is the Lead in the new APP Residency Program for APPs and is presenting a program at the 2025 ONS Congress. She is a mentor to new APPs. She is active in MCI Magnet Designation process.

Miri is an exceptional nurse educator who is committed to advancing the clinical practice of advanced practice providers at Miami Cancer Institute. Through her teaching, precepting, and mentoring, she plays a pivotal role in improving patient care and supporting APRNs at MCI.  Miri actively contributes to several key committees, including the Editorial Board, Magnet Champions, Magnet Crew, Preparing Oncology Pineapple Pharmacists, Oncology Medication Safety, Infection Control, and the APP Committee, among others.  As the Program Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Fellowship 1-year program, in collaboration with Gerlem Manso Morin, Miri manages the program's content, scheduling, and ensures that the two current interns have a valuable and hands-on experience as they rotate through various hematology clinics. In addition to her role as an outstanding CNE, Miri is a compassionate and empathetic individual who is always responsive to the needs of her colleagues in Nursing Education, offering support whenever it is needed.  I believe Miri is more than deserving of being nominated for the MCI DAISY Nurse Educator Award.

Over the past five years, Miri has demonstrated exceptional dedication to educating and supporting Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), making a lasting impact on their development and success within our institution. As an educator, mentor, colleague, and advocate for the APP community, Miri embodies the qualities celebrated by the DAISY Award. Miri has fostered a culture of excellence in clinical education, ensuring APPs are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for success. Beyond her educational role, Miri serves as a trusted mentor. She guides new APPs through their onboarding process, helping them navigate complex systems and policies while ensuring a smooth transition into their roles. Her mentorship extends to providing both emotional and professional support, helping APPs work through clinical and career challenges. Miri has been instrumental in preparing APPs for podium presentations at conferences, helping them create impactful presentations on clinical cases, evidence-based practices, and innovations in care. She encourages APPs to take pride in their role and represent the APP community confidently. Miri is also actively involved in professional development, serving on committees for the MSK Annual Advanced Practice Provider Oncology Symposium and the APP Oncology Summit, which demonstrates her commitment to advancing the field and fostering collaboration. Miri’s contributions to the institution and the APP community are invaluable. Her expertise, compassion, and unwavering support make her an exceptional candidate for the Nurse Educator DAISY Award.

Miri Sinclair is a Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience in oncology nursing and more than 13 years of AOCNP certification. She actively advocates for oncology certification to improve patient care and has contributed to a significant increase in oncology certification rates among RNs and APRNs at Miami Cancer Institute. Miri helped integrate certification into annual evaluations and promoted the ONCC free take program, which waives exam fees. She created a shared resource drive to help nurses and APRNs prepare for certification exams, fostering a culture of professional development. As a result, over 60% of nurses and APRNs at MCI are now oncology certified. Miri was one of the first APPs to work with the medical oncology specialist group at Baptist Health South Florida. She mentored over 75 APPs and created multiple educational initiatives, including the first APP Preceptor workshop and the APP Education Grand Rounds series. She played a key role in launching the Bone Marrow Transplant Fellowship program at MCI and continues to lead it. She developed an Onboarding Standardized Orientation program, onboarding over 150 APPs in the last four years. This program will be presented at the 50th Annual ONS Congress poster exhibition. Miri conducts an annual Learning Needs Assessment to guide educational events, using various teaching methods like presentations, printed materials, and online courses. Early in her career, Miri developed educational models for chemotherapy and genetic counseling, which later became key components of patient education. She also developed competencies for nine subspecialty departments and collaborated on policies like the Extravasation Chemotherapy Management Policy. Miri’s dedication to education, specialty certification, and clinical improvements makes her an exemplary DAISY Nurse Educator.

Miri plays a vital role in shaping the education of all APPs here at MCI, both experienced and new providers. Through her extraordinary work, she bridges the gap between theory and practice, ensuring that nursing professionals are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and compassion needed to deliver high-quality care. She organizes drug in-services, APP ground rounds, and other educational classes. Miri's commitment to teaching goes beyond textbooks—She is a mentor, guiding APPs to think critically, work collaboratively, and adapt to the ever-evolving demands of patient care. Her dedication advances nursing practice, elevates the standards of care, and ensures that patients receive the best possible treatment in a compassionate, professional environment.
