She hugged me and went above and beyond to not only make sure my son got the very best care imaginable, but she also made sure that I was comforted.
Sara was the ER nurse who triaged my three-year-old son. He was lethargic and had a temperature of 102 when we brought him into your ER. Obviously, as his parents, my husband and I were worried, but for me in particular, the situation was even more worrisome. My friend’s daughter passed away from AML Leukemia last year.
Since then, minor issues with my children have seemed huge. When the PA mentioned lab work, I started sobbing. Sara asked if I was okay. I told her I was, I apologized, and then explained that while I am sure that my son was okay, my friend recently lost her baby. I knew my son needed lab work, but the mention of it made me remember what happened to my friend's daughter.
Sara was so encouraging. She hugged me and went above and beyond to not only make sure my son got the very best care imaginable, but she also made sure that I was comforted. She stayed after her shift was over to clean the room for us and make sure we had everything we needed. My brother is an RN, and I am fully aware that Sara didn’t have to do that for us. She was simply an incredible nurse and an even better human. She took the time to make us feel important.
We knew she had multiple patients, and she went out of her way to ensure my son got the care he needed and that we were emotionally supported. Or my son tested positive for mono that night. Considering what we watched, what my friend's daughter and her family endured for months, a mono diagnosis was a blessing.
That was also what Sara was, Sara was a blessing, and I thank the Lord she happened to be our triage nurse that night. Sometimes, all a worried parent needs is your time and kindness. I would like to brag on your entire care team that night. It was a very busy night, and the entire staff was fantastic. My husband and I are thankful for your team at Baptist Health Hardin. Thank you so much!
