Perioperative Director Cindy Harmer stands as a beacon of compassionate and effective leadership within the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System. As a dedicated nurse leader, Cindy has consistently demonstrated extraordinary behavior, inspiring her team to strive for excellence and fostering an environment where trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development, and ethical behavior are modeled and supported.

One of Cindy’s most significant achievements has been her relentless drive to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), particularly Surgical Site Infections (SSIs). By implementing evidence-based best practices and tirelessly working to enhance patient safety, she has transformed the perioperative department into a model of quality care. Her efforts have not only saved lives but have also set a new standard of excellence within the organization.

Cindy’s leadership extends beyond infection control. She spearheaded the Enterprise "Power of We", gathering, orchestrating the coordination and planning of all aspects for all hospital and ambulatory leaders within the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System. Through her dedication, Cindy successfully united leaders under a shared vision, promoting collaboration and enhancing the image of nursing within the organization, the community, and the profession.

Cindy Harmer is a transparent, fair, extremely knowledgeable leader. Cindy is always willing to help her fellow leaders, physicians, staff, and patients with a smile. Cindy is a very kind human being; she goes above and beyond to help others. 

Cindy is very giving, some example: for nurses week she brought home made jam, peanut brittle, and fudge for the entire peri-op staff. She coordinated and organized a memorial service for one of the surgeons who passed away. Cindy has been helping with RMC go live for past couple of months, putting in countless hours. Cindy is an asset to the organization; her leadership skills are exceptional.
