Steph had a patient who had a difficult clinical course. Unfortunately, this patient ended up going into comfort care, and arrangements were made for them to be transferred to Mercy House later this evening. Throughout the day, patients needed to be transferred out of the CCU due to staffing issues. Plans were to move this patient to Med/Surg since he was a downgraded Med/Surg patient. Unfortunately, this was an undesirable situation as the patient was supposed to leave the facility later this evening. To add insult to injury, there was a shortage of CNAs in the unit due to one of our CNAs needing to leave emergently due to a family emergency. Steph, being the team player that she is, recognized not only the unit's need but also the large disservice that the patient's move was causing the patient and his family. Therefore, Steph took it upon herself not only to keep the patient on the unit and care for him but also to continually walk around the unit, helping out where she could in a CNA role.

This allowed the patient to remain where he was until his discharge; she helped alleviate his family's concerns regarding him being moved to another unit, and she addressed the unit's CNA shortage by helping to fill in where needed. Steph does this day in and day out without question or hesitation. Steph is a prime example of what a true nurse is and embodies the vision of WellSpan. We can all be so lucky to have Steph in our presence.
