Vinny encompasses all of the DAISY characteristics and exactly what it means to be a Planetree caregiver. We had a patient with no family who was admitted to the ICU for an extended period of time. This patient was in respiratory distress and very anxious on multiple occasions. Vinny recognized the patient’s need for human interaction, especially with being on isolation precautions, and he would sit in the room with the computer and chart. Vinny would talk to him, reassure him, and ensure all his needs were always met despite his confusion. Vinny identified the spiritual needs of the patient and called pastoral care, especially in moments of clarity when the patient would pray. He constantly advocated for the patient and would be in the room assisting him even when he was not the nurse assigned to him for that day.

This is just one example of Vinny going above and beyond for his patients. I have overheard countless interactions with the patients and their families to ensure that he is providing the best care possible while meeting the needs and wishes of the patient. Vinny is also an excellent team player and a great coworker to work alongside. He exhibits a positive attitude that is contagious even on the worst days.
