Megan was meant to be a nurse and nurture patients through an incredibly difficult time in their lives. She does this with grace and professionalism, and our patients are better for having her as their navigating angel.
Nomination #1:
Megan came to work with our Interventional Pulmonology group almost a year ago, having worked in CDI for 7 years. She walked into this new position with excitement for what the future held. The position as a nurse navigator was new for the practice and to me as a manager, which Megan knew. Still, her excitement and anticipation to blaze the trail was amazing and contagious. She has done an outstanding job of establishing herself as the right-hand person to Dr. J, our Interventional Pulmonologist. She spent time with the nurse navigators in the West and South regions to see all they do daily in their roles.
Megan has connected with our patients on a personal level. She will go the extra mile to ensure they have everything they need and the education necessary to understand the procedure they will have. Megan accompanies Dr. J to the Endoscopy lab where the Bronchoscopies, EBUS, and ION procedures occur. She sees the patients before their procedure, and she sees them when they come back to their room to recover. She is always willing to re-explain anything a patient is having trouble understanding and will put it into the simplest terms to ensure the patient understands, be it what they need to do before the procedure or what they will need to do when they go home.
There was one patient who ended up passing away, and the family contacted Megan to let her know and asked her to please come to the wake and/or funeral if at all possible. Megan was there in a heartbeat because the bond with this patient was strong. Her compassionate heart understands that patients are being told something life-altering and wants them to know they are not alone in their journey. That is her job- to navigate the patient through all the pieces, along with the ups and downs of the diagnosis. She makes sure patients are set up with Oncology and other physicians or departments that will be involved in the next phase of their care. She is constantly collaborating with other offices to see what she can do to assist. She leaves no open gaps and always closes the loop with the patient and their family.

Nomination #2:
Megan has been absolutely incredible! I am an NM physician, and my husband was recently diagnosed with cancer. She, by far, has been one of the best nurse interactions we have had. She has gone out of her way to make sure we have everything we need and has helped us get the appointments to make my husband more comfortable. She is outstanding!
