She effectively demonstrates the true meaning of advocate for both the patients she cares for and the nursing staff she oversees. Bree has shown extraordinary growth over the past year and has developed the necessary leadership skills required to lead her team toward success. Her leadership can be summed up using three words: preparation, support, and passion.
Bree has been serving as the Pod RN for Geneseo Family Medicine and Henrietta Primary Care practices for the past fifteen months during which time I have had the pleasure of getting to know and work with her. Prior to her role in the primary care ambulatory setting, Bree was a staff nurse on the 5800 unit at Rochester General Hospital.
Bree is an extraordinary person and clinician with a clear passion for nursing. She is a highly skilled, extremely knowledgeable, compassionate team player who consistently displays and promotes the highest ethical standards.
When the task before you is overwhelming, it takes strong leadership and a clear vision to break down tasks into manageable pieces. Bree does not shy away from a challenge. Rather, she puts on her thinking cap and uses her critical thinking skills to come up with a solution. She is a vocal collaborator with nursing leadership, practice managers, and senior practice administrators who advocate on behalf of her peers. Most recently, she provided valuable input and insight into the development of a Pod RN nurse pool coverage plan for staff absences. Bree has also been a stabilizing force at her practices, which have both experienced a staff turnover. In her Pod RN role, she supports the onboarding of new staff and acts as a preceptor. Her patience and dedication have allowed new team members to learn their roles with the expectation of the delivery of patient-centered quality care.
The Pod RN team has also faced its own challenges over the course of the past year. Bree is always ready to volunteer to help support her colleagues by floating a team member to provide onsite support or by providing remote support to nurse inbaskets to ensure the timely delivery of patient care in order to meet their needs. She does not hesitate to do whatever is needed to keep her staff, patients, and colleagues safe. This includes rooming patients when necessary. Bree has a clear understanding of the scope of practice, daily operations, and their impact on patient care. You can always count on her to be there to throw you a lifejacket when needed!
With the pending arrival of her first child, Bree has been committed to preparing her team to function successfully during her absence. Many hours of planning and preparation have occurred to prepare her team and alleviate any apprehension among them. Bree works one on one with each of her team members to validate their understanding and comfort with tasks to promote their independence. Not only has she prepared her teams, but she has also done a lot of work preparing her Henrietta site to participate in the New York State VFC program. This will be a positive addition to the services offered at Henrietta, allowing pediatric patients the ability to be vaccinated at the point of care rather than having to go to the county health department. What a huge satisfier for all involved!
Bree has a desire to grow both personally and professionally. She recently achieved clinical ladder III status (the first Pod RN to do so) and is working toward the completion of her bachelor’s degree through Alfred State. She also continues to maintain per diem status on 5800, often picking up weekend hours and serving as the charge nurse. I do not know how she does it all, but she always does it with a smile on her face! For the reasons provided above, I know she is worthy of receiving a DAISY Award.
Bree has a contagious passion and energy that she harnesses to drive her team toward excellence and the delivery of safe, quality care that is consistent with the Rochester Regional Health mission and vision. I am so proud to have her as a member of the family medicine team and desire to recognize the growth she has displayed over the past year along with the great work that she continues to do. Bree is an inspiring role model for all nurses! I cannot wait to see where her career takes her, as I know she will achieve great things!
