I have been fortunate to be a part of this team for 15 years, which consists of 30+ male and female RNs who work full-time, part-time, per diem, and travelers. We take pride in our nursing practice and demonstrate this through assessment, education to our patients and their caregivers, troubleshooting, and access maintenance and insertion using high-level venous access care.
We practice in accordance with DFCls NCPS's mission of providing safe, effective, and compassionate care; we use and develop new knowledge; and educate our patients, families, staff, colleagues, and community. 2019 has brought continued commitment from our Venous Access Team to NPCS.
We standardized our work carts, which then led to every workspace being standardized. This allows staff to be autonomous in choosing their daily work area.
We have been very involved in the EBP program of heparin versus saline flushing of central access. This has brought with it a change in our practice, along with much education to our patients and their caregivers.
Our staff continues to be self-motivated with continuing education. This has been demonstrated by certification completion and enrollment and completion of higher education. - We have been involved in the development and appropriate use of the venous access flowsheet found in EPIC. This flowsheet has been fed to INS through a poster submission.
Our staff has significantly contributed to Magnet recertification through our Y2 Magnet champions. Yawkey 2 nursing is widely represented on NPCS committees along with consistent representation on Nursing Council. - Ongoing commitment to meet staffing needs, and most recently, with a voluntary change in work hours to support the expansion of hours at DFCI.
