Colleagues often describe Torie as dependable, innovative, and deeply compassionate.
It is with sincere admiration and gratitude that I nominate Torie Fisher for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Educators. Torie is the embodiment of BayCare’s values—trust, respect, and dignity—and she lives these values daily through her exceptional leadership, compassionate mentorship, and creative approach to nursing education. Her work not only elevates her peers but also directly contributes to better patient outcomes across our system.

Torie is a rare kind of educator—one who doesn’t just teach but truly inspires. She is present, thoughtful, and deeply committed to helping others succeed. She consistently takes the time to create a “moment” with each team member she encounters, whether it's a new graduate stepping onto the unit for the first time or a seasoned nurse looking to sharpen their skills. A shining example of her innovation is the Patient Experience Workshop, which she designed and led to bridge the knowledge-practice gap at the bedside. By combining evidence-based content with real-world application, this workshop not only empowered nurses but also led to a notable increase in HCAHPS scores, demonstrating the measurable value of her efforts.

Torie is also highly engaged in onboarding new team members, personally identifying any missed elements during system orientation and ensuring they are addressed before unit orientation. This ensures a seamless and supportive transition to clinical practice, easing anxiety and setting new hires up for success. She actively listens to feedback, then designs responsive and meaningful educational interventions. In alignment with BayCare’s value of being present and curious, Torie brings a calm and compassionate presence to every interaction. Whether leading ACLS training, conducting Mock Code Blue simulations, or creating content for the Care That Connects Skills Fair, she maintains poise and fosters dignity, even in high-pressure situations.

Torie is also a creative solution-finder. Her “You Asked, We Listened” approach to ongoing competencies and skills fairs ensures that educational content is both relevant and engaging. Her efforts include personalized 1:1 rhythm review courses, updated mock scenarios, and flexible learning platforms—all designed to meet learners where they are. She champions professional growth by promoting advanced degrees, specialty certifications, and actively participating in the Virtual Nurse Journal Club that encourages reflection and scholarly discussion. Her efforts are grounded in a belief that when nurses grow, patients benefit—and she leads by example every step of the way.

Colleagues often describe Torie as dependable, innovative, and deeply compassionate. She is known for thinking outside the box, taking initiative, and consistently going above and beyond for the benefit of both patients and staff. Her presence alone instills confidence in others. She genuinely honors the humanity of our work, always aware of the fears and stress that may accompany learning and change—and she actively works to reduce them through transparent communication and heartfelt support. Torie also understands that education is not just about knowledge transfer—it’s about connection. She celebrates successes, no matter how small, and helps others recognize the value of their own growth. In doing so, she strengthens the fabric of our team, our culture, and our mission. For all these reasons, her leadership, innovation, compassion, and unrelenting dedication—I proudly nominate Torie Fisher for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurse Educators. Her impact is profound, her passion is contagious, and her legacy of excellence is undeniable. Torie not only teaches—she transforms lives.
