Truly, from my entire family, I want to thank Tiffany and her preceptee for making us feel heard, for understanding our situation, and for caring for my grandmother during this difficult time.
My grandmother was admitted to Baywood after a fall. She suffers from Alzheimer's-type dementia and at times can be quite confused. We had been in the ED for about 5 hours before we came up to the 7th floor. As a nurse myself, I’m familiar with how long the admission process can take, especially when juggling the needs of multiple patients. Not only did Tiffany prioritise my grandmother’s admission as my father and I were waiting to provide the history, but she also did this while precepting another nurse. It was clear that Tiffany was aware that both my grandmother and us, her family, were tired from the day. Tiffany wanted to get things moving along so that we all could rest.
The next day, my father had been there for almost 12 hours, but was unsure of the plan of care. As I was unable to be there that day, he called to let me know (right about shift change), and we expressed our questions and concerns. Despite the poor timing of our concerns, Tiffany and her preceptee addressed our questions immediately and involved the charge nurse, so that my father was aware of the POC. As a nurse, I know how busy shift change can be, but again, Tiffany made us and especially my father, feel heard and seen. I cannot express how much this meant to me and my family. Although I am a healthcare worker myself and I have vast experience with dementia patients, dealing with my grandmother's Alzheimer’s disease has been extremely difficult and heartbreaking. As they say, “it’s always different when it’s your own person.”
Truly, from my entire family, I want to thank Tiffany and her preceptee for making us feel heard, for understanding our situation, and for caring for my grandmother during this difficult time. They showed obvious compassion, patience, and grace. Her efforts and care have definitely not gone unnoticed. We appreciate the entire nursing team at Baywood, but Tiffany truly went above and beyond, and we will forever be grateful. Thank you so much, Tiffany. You are truly in our thoughts and prayers.
