Working in healthcare is often as challenging as it is rewarding, and having the right leadership can truly make all the difference. In our unit, we are incredibly fortunate to be led by Stephanie, a nurse manager whose support, empathy, and dedication to her team have created a workplace that is not only highly functional, but also genuinely enjoyable to be part of. Her leadership is a model of what compassionate, people-centered management looks like- and it’s made a lasting impact on everyone she works with.
From the moment I joined the team, Stephanie made me feel welcomed, respected, and supported. She took time out of her busy schedule to introduce herself personally, walk me through the unit, and check in regularly to ensure I felt comfortable and confident in my new role. Her approachable demeanor immediately set the tone for the kind of work environment she fosters- one where communication flows freely, questions are encouraged, and every staff member is made to feel like a valued part of the team.
Stephanie goes above and beyond to support her nurses- not just professionally, but personally as well. She understands the demands of our work and never hesitates to accommodate when someone needs flexibility, whether that’s to attend to family matters, manage burnout, or pursue further education. She’s always available to listen, and she takes every concern seriously, never brushing off issues or making anyone feel dismissed. Stephanie’s open-door policy isn’t just something she says- it’s something she truly lives by.
One of the things that stands out most about Stephanie is how deeply she cares about the wellbeing of her staff. She checks in often- not just about tasks or schedules, but about how we’re feeling. She celebrates our successes, lifts us up when we’re struggling, and constantly reminds us that we’re not alone. Stephanie is the perfect representation of what the DAISY Award represents.
