Without Mr. Schober, my mother would not have been as strong during this difficult time.
Mr. Schober brightened and enriched every single day I spent in the ICU. He cared for my husband in an extraordinarily kind and compassionate way, as if they were good friends, without ever being intrusive or overstepping boundaries. Although my husband was unable to communicate, Mr. Schober quickly picked up on some of his preferences, such as which side he liked to lie on, his habit of keeping a blanket between his legs rather than over him, his fondness for lemonade and cola mix, and his discomfort with wearing the hospital gown directly against his skin. He always tried to accommodate these needs as much as possible. For instance, he only used protective mittens (the ones that prevent patients from pulling out cables) when absolutely necessary.
I cannot fully evaluate his professional competence, but I always felt confident when my husband was under Mr. Schober's care. At the same time, he was there for me. I was in an emotionally extreme situation during my time on this ward, and he explained many of the day-to-day events during his shifts, asked about my needs, and simply made himself available to support me. His humanity and empathy brought so much comfort to what felt like an unreal situation, making me feel that my husband and I were in the best hands. I am incredibly grateful that Mr. Schober was frequently on duty during my husband’s two-week stay.

As the patient’s daughter, I want to echo this sentiment:
My father was gravely ill with liver disease and was on Unit 92 before he was successfully transplanted. During this time, Mr. Schober cared for him in an exceptionally humane and positive manner. My mother was with my father every day, and she would share daily how remarkable her experience with Mr. Schober was. He managed to bring a smile to her face in what felt like a hopeless situation, thanks to his caring, positive, and kind demeanor. I also had the opportunity to meet him and observe his work firsthand, and the impression my mother described was confirmed.

He consistently communicated openly about my father’s condition and took the time to explain all procedures and test results, giving us an invaluable sense of clarity and transparency throughout my father’s stay. His exceptional empathy and professionalism left a lasting impact on our family.
