From the very beginning of my nursing education at St. Kate's, Stacey Hurrell has been a shining example of what an exceptional nursing instructor looks like.
Interacting with Professor Hurrell, I have seen how much she cares about the students and our program. She works hard to know everyone's name, their passions, and career aspirations. Seeing her work with Nurse Katie's Closet is just one example of her passion for our program. She has worked hard to grow the organization and spread the word about the group's work. She also thoroughly plans her lessons and makes sure her students understand the content. She pushes students to expand their knowledge and take accountability for their learning by studying the content, attending mentor sessions, and applying their skills.

Professor Hurrell was both my professor and clinical faculty for the community public health clinical. She is very supportive and really fosters a comfortable learning environment. I learned so much from her, especially during the cardiac unit. She also taught me a lot of life lessons and always shared her wisdom. She always went above and beyond for her students, and I could always tell how much she cared about her job and us. She is very approachable, empathetic, and does an amazing job at creating a safe space. She fosters academic excellence with the way she teaches. Her commitment to nursing and education is evident in her participation and enthusiasm. I loved having her as a professor and really appreciated everything she did for me and other nursing students.

Too many to pick from. Professor Hurrell is the best educator I’ve had in any schooling throughout my life. She is supportive, approachable, and engaged in her teaching. She demonstrates leadership, poise, and knowledge that shows her true dedication to the nursing profession, and the education of developing nurses.

Stacey is truly the embodiment of what it means to be a nurse. Her therapeutic presence is something so rare and genuine — every conversation I’ve ever had with her has felt like a warm hug. She radiates compassion, patience, and understanding in a way that makes you feel seen and cared for. I honestly get emotional just thinking about how sweet and supportive she is. Throughout nursing school, she’s been a consistent source of encouragement, always lifting me up with kind words and unwavering faith in me, even during the moments when I had none in myself. She believed in my potential, especially when I was struggling the most, and that kind of support has meant more to me than I can put into words. Stacey is the kind of nurse I hope to be — not just clinically skilled, but full of heart, empathy, and grace.

From the very beginning of my nursing education at St. Kate's, Stacey Hurrell has been a shining example of what an exceptional nursing instructor looks like. As a teacher, Stacey's lectures are well-researched, efficiently presented, and clearly convey her content, complex as it may be. As a small group leader, Stacey incorporated personal stories and experiences to reinforce pathophysiology exemplars, making the content feel more approachable. Stacey is extremely knowledgeable about a variety of nursing content areas and clarifies questions effectively. Aside from her teaching skills, I will remember Stacey as someone who always made me and my peers feel genuinely cared for as a student and as a person. Her care for students and desire for them to succeed are palpable. I feel fortunate to have had Stacey to guide me and encourage my drive for knowledge during my time in nursing school.
