Siobhan has carved out time specifically for feedback and to listen to concerns that were being shared and be able to respond to these with compassion and understanding.
Siobhan exemplifies the ethos of the DAISY awards and demonstrates compassionate patient centred care. In that, Siobhan has gone above and beyond to support a young person in hospital into the next step of her patient journey. Siobhan has taken a shared journey approach with this person and be open and transparent when things were not going to plan, not only to ensure that she was aware that there was a team working to support her, but to allow the patient to be fully involved in their care.
Siobhan has carved out time specifically for feedback and to listen to concerns that were being shared and be able to respond to these with compassion and understanding. Siobhan has then used these views to advocate for the young persons interest and ensure there was drive to move forward, never forgetting the patient voice and making sure their interests were supported and everyone was doing all they could to support the young person on their journey.
Siobhan worked tirelessly making sure that not only did everyone internally know what was happening or needed to happen, she also held the network in mind and supported their understanding. She also demonstrated great clinical leadership and understanding of her Patient knowing what would support and what wouldn't. For example, not telling them that funding had been agreed until a date had been agreed on. I believe that Siobhan has been instrumental in ensuring that the patient felt connected to her team, hopeful about the future, and that she has given meaning to her journey and experience and feels empowered to reach out for the support and take charge of her care.
Without Siobhan I could envision a very different outcome and an escalation in level of care required as opposed to the level of stability that has been achieved. It must be recognised that Siobhan is the clinical team manager and has definitely gone above and beyond her role and demonstrated the trust values of be ambitious, brave in challenging decisions that were not in the best interests of the patient and compassion, just in the way she works with young people under her care. Always ensuring that her day job has been completed, and that the young person was able to have their voice heard. The standards of care are recognised, and this has filled me with great joy and optimism.
Siobhan is clearly an advocate for patient centered care and the recovery work we have set out to achieve. I have also felt enthused by the level of curiosity, the checking in and the fact that Siobhan not only took advice on board but was able to translate that into meaningful actions for this young person and their care pathway. She is also able to take some really complex conversations and processes and make them make sense for her young person. Siobhan is an absolute joy to work alongside, and I really do look forward to seeing where her journey within the mental health division takes her.
