Renee was nominated by her peers and a faculty member. She is recognized for her kindness, leadership, and being an inspiration to those around her. Here is one of the many examples that illustrate Renee’s qualities as a DAISY Award recipient:
Renee demonstrates unwavering commitment to compassionate care of patients and families. In the Clinical rotations I did with Renee for two semesters, she has consistently demonstrated an unparalleled dedication to the compassionate care of patients and their families. Her ability to build meaningful connections with patients, families, and peers is truly remarkable. She possesses a unique gift for establishing trust and respect in her interactions and great communication skills, fostering an environment where individuals feel valued and supported. Renee also shared with me that she genuinely cares for people, which is why she took up nursing. And I have seen that, not only in the clinicals but in all my observations and interactions with her.
She makes connections with patients, families, and peers by building trust and respect. She had a patient with a rare disorder I couldn't recall anymore and had thrombocytopenia and chronic pain. The platelet count was low at admission. She was very attentive to this patient. When the patient was in despair because of too much pain, Renee spent extra time with them to listen and offer emotional support and distraction. She showed emotional support in a caring manner. She made sure to assess the patient competently and administered meds safely. Renee’s academic preparedness is evident in her approach to clinical practice. Her deep knowledge and readiness contribute significantly to her ability to excel at clinicals.
Renee advocates strongly for patients and families. One of her most notable attributes is her strong advocacy for patients and their families. She tirelessly advocates on their behalf, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met. For example, there was a patient who had an infection as a post-op complication. This patient was so frustrated that they did not know what was going on with their care. Renee was there to thoroughly explain what was going on. She spent ample time on patient education with the patient. Renee is truly wonderful.
