Her way of teaching helped me understand and enjoy many topics, which made studying easier and helped me improve my critical thinking.
I want to nominate Dr. Regi Johnny for the DAISY Award because I had the opportunity to be in her class and I also had the chance to be part of her clinical group. There are many reasons why I want to do this, but the main one is that every time I was in her class, I felt the enthusiasm and passion with which she was teaching us every topic. Her way of teaching helped me understand and enjoy many topics, which made studying easier and helped me improve my critical thinking. Every interaction with her in the hospital setting provided me with a learning experience.
On one occasion, I was with a patient with a pulmonary catheter, and she pushed me to explain how it worked to my classmates. This device was new for me, so I did not know all the information, but she was willing to explain every detail as many times as necessary for us to understand it. This experience helped me to really understand this device, which also helped me during my exams.
On another occasion, she also taught me how to perform an SBAR more efficiently by showing me how she would do it and what I could improve in my report. Her passion during the semester was inspirational because the patient's safety and wellness were essential to her, which are qualities every nurse should have. These experiences and many others I learned while in her class and clinical would help me be more prepared for my future patients and my future nursing practice.
