Paten came on day duty Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, after my husband and l had a long night in the ER! No regular beds were available, although my husband was admitted at 2 am. Paten immediately, in his calm voice, introduced himself and offered his apology that no rooms were available, then he put on a most professional approach and stated, "Here is what we are going to do today to get you better.” He proceeded with precision to address the priority issues, as my husband had 3. He checked in on frequent intervals and updated us. He kept us informed and made sure each new technician handled my husband properly and advised them of the issue, so we did not have to repeat!
By the 30th hour of literally hanging out in the ER, my husband said, l need out of here. So, l gently approached Paten and explained the situation and said my husband wants to check himself out so he can go home to recover! Paten listened respectfully and again apologized and was super empathetic. He said he would see what he could do to push it forward to get us home! I returned to my husband to explain.
In about 8 minutes, Paten came in to advise us that he had consulted with the doctor, and with one more test, of about 7, we could be dismissed to go home with scheduled home care. So, within an hour, Paten had secured the EKG technician and it was done, scheduled the social worker who explained home care and how to handle, asked for dismissals admin person to consult with us, began his routine to dettach my husband, advise of conditions and provided us with a walker and would be most happy to help get my husband in the car, all with the most pleasant attitude. I said to him, “Thank you, you have been more than amazing and l wish l could hug you!” He paused and said, “l would like that!” When l asked Paten how he was able to be so efficient and calm, he said he came from a family of nurses and caregivers!
