She was with us as much as she could in B's final hours. Her compassion, integrity, kindness and soft articulate voice was a blessing to us.
Michelle has outstanding assets:
The compassion that she shows to the family of the patient is above and beyond. The compassion that she has for her patients is incredible. She speaks to them in whole sentences and has talks with them even though they may be on a vent and unconscious.
Michells owns her actions and words, although they seem flawless.
Michelle shows incredible respect for the privacy of the family in their time of grief, although she is only a whisper away. She is very respectful of the dignity and comfort of her patients.
Integrity should be her middle name. She is compassionate, caring, truthful, and knowledgeable.
On a day that she was not B's nurse, she was the first one to show up when his nurse was tied up and the machines started beeping and honking. She always smiles and greets the family when entering the room.
My husband was hospitalized in the ICU on a vent until his death. It was on a Sunday that we (his family) learned that B was severely ill, and we had to make tough decisions. Michelle was his nurse the weekend before his death. We were so impressed by her above-and-beyond personality and work ethic. Michelle chooses her words carefully and is very articulate and compassionate, especially to B. She had a conversation with us and included him in the conversation...truly endearing.
One night, she was saying goodbye and sincerely wished us well. At this, I lost my composure, and she sat with me past her shift until I calmed down. I immediately went to the unit supervisor to compliment Michelle. The next day, we learned we had to make end of life decisions or arrange for B to live on a vent. We chose his disconnect day to ensure family visits. Ultimately, we decided that one more day was too long and asked to have him disconnected. I told the supervisor of our decision, and she mentioned that Michelle picked up a shift that day. We pleaded for her to be with us. B was disconnected at about 3pm and was still breathing on his own at 7 pm and Michelle got to be our night nurse. She was with us as much as she could in B's final hours. Her compassion, integrity, kindness and soft articulate voice was a blessing to us. She was in the room when B passed, and she was so kind and soft-spoken. She gave us a little time and then offered to clean him up so that we could visit with our B without tubes and machines. Michelle continued to check on us as we said our goodbyes to B. Michelle is an asset to Bayhealth and a true DAISY Nurse.
