I wholeheartedly believe that Mary Lauren embodies all the qualities that make an amazing nurse.
During her clinical rotation in the ER, Mary Lauren was faced with a difficult situation where she showed compassionate care and professionalism. One night while working in the ER, Mary Lauren had a patient who was very hostile and unhappy with her treatment in the ER with other staff members for her whole visit. Mary Lauren and her preceptor had a brief interaction with the patient towards the end of the patient's ER visit, where she talked to the patient and listened to her concerns. At the beginning of this interaction, the patient was very ill-mannered, hostile, and agitated as she had been with other staff members. After being discharged, the patient walked up to the front desk and told the staff member that Mary Lauren and her preceptor were “the most knowledgeable, kind, and respectful people” that she had ever had care for her in any hospital. While the patient was by no means an easy patient to take care of, Mary Lauren treated the patient with respect and listened to her concerns, allowing the patient to feel understood.
During her clinical hours with me, Mary Lauren has demonstrated exceptional bedside skills and nursing judgement while using critical thinking skills. Mary Lauren demonstrates compassion and empathy while caring for her patients in a very professional manner. She also treats all patients (and staff) with respect. Mary Lauren asks for feedback and is eager to learn and better herself, her nursing skills, and knowledge through feedback and constructive criticism. I believe that Mary is an exceptional nursing student and will soon grow into an amazing nurse. It is very common for nursing students to come to clinicals because they are required to and just do what they can to get through the day. Mary Lauren is not one of those students; she goes above and beyond every single shift to ensure that she is providing exceptional care to all patients and treating everyone with respect. I wholeheartedly believe that Mary Lauren embodies all the qualities that make an amazing nurse.
