Marissa works tirelessly and in the best interests of our members as a member of the Select Health Authorization team. As a nurse, Marissa continues to take care of patients every day. Marissa is a team lead and takes on not just leading her fellow caregivers, but also some of our most complex members and authorizations. Recently, a member was involved in a horrific car accident in Mexico, resulting in severe burns.  Member required emergent air ambulance back to Utah for treatment at U of U Burn Center. The company used did not contract with or accept insurance, so the spouse had to pay out of pocket for the transport back to Utah. We approved the transport at the INN benefit, so we should be able to provide reimbursement for the transport. This member has sadly passed away, and her spouse will need case management assistance to request/submit reimbursement for the air ambulance. Marissa, wanting to make sure the family was taken care of, made sure to personally reach out to Care Management to ensure our CM team was aware of the situation because knowing the member is going to show inactive soon due to her passing, and didn't want the case to be closed because of that. She also wanted our CM team to be aware so that they know to ask to speak to the spouse and not the member. She carefully considered each aspect of the authorization as well as the family's needs and the sad and sensitive nature of all the communications. She set the team up for success by making sure the caregivers who would now take on the member's care, had all of the information they needed to proceed. Marissa went above and beyond, but if you asked her, she would say she just did her job. She is truly exceptional.
