I feel both physically and emotionally comforted when I head up to the unit and see Lyndsey waiting for me.
Everyone who knows me understands just how much I love the nursing staff on the Transplant 3 East unit, but I hold a special admiration, respect, and comfort whenever I work with Lyndsey. I began receiving care at Jefferson in late 2018, and from the very beginning, Lyndsey stood out. I first arrived here timid, scared, and apprehensive about anyone providing care; I was hard to reach. Lyndsey was one of the first people I met here, and she instantly eased my fears. She was gentle, kind, and made me smile. I feel both physically and emotionally comforted when I head up to the unit and see Lyndsey waiting for me. She has always treated me with the utmost respect and admiration. Acknowledging my experiences and what I have gone through, she always listens and has never dismissed the information and knowledge that I bring to the table about my health and conditions. She speaks to me as if I am an equal and important member of my own care team; this quality is invaluable to me. My condition takes a lot of my time, but she always greets me and engages with me for who I am and not what I have. I cannot begin to express what that means to me. It has truly helped heal all those little parts of myself that illness has chipped away. We talk about family, sports, TV, trips-just everyday life. She can make me forget that I am sitting in a hospital bed and make it feel as if I am just catching up with a friend. Lyndsey is equally attentive to my physical needs. She knows the ins and outs of my care, my "usual," and what is out of the ordinary for me. When I am inpatient and not feeling well, it lifts a weight off me and my family's shoulders knowing that I am being well cared for, and there is never a concern that "something will be missed." Having health concerns and chronic illness is very demanding and takes up a lot of space; it feels like my brain is filled with lists of things I need to remember. It is refreshing and extremely comforting to know that when I am sick, I can just be sick and that I don't need to worry about ensuring my care is comprehensive; Lyndsey always does the hard work for me. As I spend several months out of the year inpatient, the people I engage with while here all have a significant and meaningful impact on me. Lyndsey has truly changed the way I experience my life, and for that, I am extremely grateful. She deserves all the accolades and awards!

I would like to nominate Lyndsey Matteo, 3 East Transplant RN, for the Center City Daisy Award. Lyndsey has dedicated her nursing career to Jefferson Health. She first started out as a nurse extern on 13 Pavilion, and after graduating from nursing school, she accepted a full-time staff RN position on the solid organ transplant unit. Lyndsey makes a positive impression on everyone she works with, whether they are fellow Jefferson employees, patients, or caregivers; this is evidenced by the statements and comments she has received. Lyndsey’s years of experience give her a vast skill set and knowledge base. She possesses strong critical thinking skills and is an innate leader. Lyndsey is always willing to share her expertise with others, and she has consistently been one of the first to volunteer to precept or take charge. Lyndsey is an excellent teacher and mentor; she can present information in a way that is easy for others to understand, while also ensuring that they are held accountable for doing the right things. Staff feel comfortable approaching her with questions, concerns, and issues.
Lyndsey always remains respectful and professional in all her interactions; she practices with compassion and empathy. She maintains a good rapport with all the members of the interdisciplinary team and is an active participant in patient rounds. She is attentive to the needs of all the patients and other staff members on the unit. A fierce advocate for her patients, she never hesitates to speak up. Lyndsey also ensures that safety and infection control measures are followed and will address any issues she observes. She consistently uses the appropriate chain of command and provides effective service recovery when needed. For several years, Lyndsey has served as one of the 3 East NPG representatives. In this role, she attends monthly meetings and communicates what she has learned to the rest of the NPG leaders and the unit. Lyndsey has worked closely with the unit leaders and other staff members to initiate and implement projects and ideas aimed at improving the working environment for the staff and enhancing the care provided. One project Lyndsey contributed to this year was a mentorship program for new nurses, where more experienced nurses were paired with newer ones. The pairs would meet or check in with one another throughout the year. This initiative was successful; follow-up evaluations showed that the new practice nurses involved in the mentorship program felt supported. Another project Lyndsey participated in was developing a unit culture initiative with the unit CPL, where staff are recognized for upholding our unit culture standards.
Always looking for ways to bring the team together, Lyndsey has organized numerous unit celebrations and parties, both inside and outside of work. This past year, she helped coordinate a unit night out at the Phillies, a winter holiday party, and a donation drive for the Gift of Life Howie’s House. Additionally, Lyndsey assisted in raising funds for the Gift of Life Howie’s House by selling snack items, participating in the Donor Dash Walk, and volunteering her time at local health fairs. She is extremely engaged and dedicated to providing high-quality patient care that goes beyond the bedside; her hard work and dedication are evident to all. Lyndsey is committed to her professional growth and the growth of others. She maintains her advanced nursing certifications and encourages her colleagues to become certified. Furthermore, Lyndsey serves on the hospital Clinical Ladder Review committee, where she reviews and provides feedback on clinical ladder applications and mentors nurses working on their applications. More recently, she volunteered to be a unit skin champion, assisting with prevalence skin checks and providing staff education. Lyndsey is an invaluable asset to our team, and we all benefit greatly from her influence.

We all love it when Lyndsey picks up shifts on 13 Pavilion. Not only is she a smart and strong nurse, but she is also easy to get along with and a valuable resource for newer staff. Her sense of humor, work ethic, and caring personality make her an outstanding asset to nursing. If we could bring her back to 13 Pavilion, we would!

Lyndsey is the nurse who is always asking you how she can help, even when she is juggling a super busy assignment. She is never without a smile or inquiring about how things are going. She embodies the true spirit of a team player, consistently going above and beyond to provide 5-star care to her patients. When I walk by her rooms, she is often seen changing beds, walking with patients in the halls, setting up their meal trays, and conversing with them about life. Her patients rave about her care, and Lyndsey is the nurse everyone would want for their family member. I am continuously amazed by the positivity and pride she puts into her job, inspiring you to become a better nurse. She serves as a role model for all our new nurses and nursing students. It is a pleasure to be her colleague.
