Linda is usually the first in-home contact patients and families have with SSM Hospice. She works as a professional to meet their immediate needs easily, listening and easing fear.
"I am Professional"
Linda is the primary admission nurse for our office and has been for some time. She is a wealth of knowledge and experience. She has worked with many other nurses to teach them the admission process and worked with management to stream line the process to make it as efficient as possible for staff and the families we serve.
"I am an Advocate"
She supports other nurses thru her experience, advocacy and by training them. She met a RN at a local nursing facility who expressed an interest in becoming a Hospice nurse, she told her the process and that RN later came to work with our Team and is still part of it.
"I am a Partner"
She meets people where they are, adapting and adjusting to accommodate the needs of those she is with at that moment. The start of Hospice care can affect patients and their families differently, but it is almost always a stressful time. She has a calm presence that is greatly appreciated.
"I am Accountable"
Linda will adjust her work hours to accommodate the schedules of other professionals, hospitals, and families to open patients for services in a timely manner to meet outcomes established by our branch.
"I am a Leader"
Linda has the best prayers ever; when one of our staff or patients is struggling, she will post a lovely prayer to our Teams thread. She is active in her church and contributes food to Hospice patients when needed. When one of our nurses' homes was struck by a tornado, she and her husband were among the 1st there to help. We had a patient who passed, the night before the couple had a large tree limb fall across their driveway; Linda and her husband, who is also a Hospice Volunteer, loaded up and came to cut the limb up for them. Both Linda and her husband are part of a Disaster Relief Ministry that goes wherever their help is needed, whenever they can. Their son was also a Veteran Volunteer for SSM Hospice until recently, when his family and work responsibilities no longer allowed him to continue. She lives the Mission every day.
Linda is usually the first in-home contact patients and families have with SSM Hospice. She works as a professional to meet their immediate needs easily, listening and easing fear. She provides the education needed for them to manage immediate patient care needs, setting a foundation for the staff who follow. She will return to the office to pick up supplies if needed to ease stress. She is a calming presence in the face of frequent chaos. Linda now has retirement in her sights, and it is hard to imagine our office without her.
