Her peers recognize her for the empathy she shows to all patients, especially those who are the most vulnerable.
This nurse has been working within our hospital as an inpatient RN for numerous years in various positions on our Med-Tele units. She is fierce in her advocacy for our patients. She communicates concerns promptly to medical staff and supports her team as charge nurse on a frequent basis.
Clinically, she is well tenured and skilled. She maintains the knowledge of our patients needed each shift to support her team when in the charge role. She leads team responses to urgent and emergent changes in patient condition. Following these events, RRT calls, and Medical codes, she seeks feedback and debriefs with those involved to improve her personal and the team's performance. She is a role model of servant leadership.
Her spiritual approach to the care she delivers fosters dignity and respect. Her peers recognize her for the empathy she shows to all patients, especially those who are the most vulnerable. She was observed to extend her kindness to a frequently admitted homeless patient with difficulty managing interpersonal communication. She coached him on resources available in the community and assured he had clean clothing during admission and at discharge.
One previous coworker described the following experience working with this nurse:
"During one of the many hectic days we have on the inpatient unit, she had patience and empathy for a patient who was overwhelmed and facing a tough hospitalization alone. She took the time to attend to a patient who was constantly needing reassurance and delegated her time to them, though she had two other critically ill patients and two discharges ahead of her.
Not only did her acute patients receive the care they deserved, but her troubled patient ended up getting relief knowing there was someone there to listen without rushing them or dismissing their worries. I hope to have the patience and kindness she strives to provide to her patients. And I pray she never loses that motivation to show love in all situations."
Our team and patients are fortunate to have this nurse working at UHC.
