She is always professional with every encounter and provides nothing but the best care to all her patients. She never judges anybody and is always trying to find a way to help others! Laurel is the silent leader in the background, quietly guiding the team through the strength of her actions rather than words.
"I am Professional"
How has the nominee created innovative environments for the achievement of exceptional outcomes while advancing and contributing to the profession?
Laurel Taylor has always shown up to work with the most positive attitude. She is always willing to help whenever needed, no matter what is needed!
I can’t imagine all the improvements and changes that have been implemented since Laurel became a nurse. She embraces all new changes within the department. Whether it is new technology, seeking solutions to improve patient outcomes or continuously refining her skills. Her ability to think critically and adapt to the evolving health care needs fosters a culture of innovation. This is what a professional RN looks like for an ER.
As an outsider of the department, I have watched Laurel quietly lead the department. Her daily positive attitude is contagious.
"I am an Advocate"
How has this nominee supported other nurses throughout their nursing career?
Laurel helped train me to become the nurse that I am today. She picked me up and placed me under her wing and never looked back! She is always uplifting me and guiding me through all critical situations. Even off orientation she continues to be a mentor, supporting me through each situation I encounter as a new nurse. Any time I ask her a question, she answers me without hesitation or judgment.
Throughout her nursing career, she has supported other nurses by offering guidance, mentorship, and a sense of community. I have witnessed Laurel provide advice on how to handle difficult cases for newer nurses as well as simply offering emotional support during challenging cases.
She has directly (or at least indirectly) trained each member in the ED at this point.
"I am a Partner"
How has this nominee partnered with patients, families, customers, and colleagues to provide exceptional care and service throughout their career?
Laurel is always explaining everything in such a way that families can relate to and understand. If a family member ever has a question, Laurel will always find an answer. Her bedside manner is one to aspire to be like!
Laurel excels in partnering with families and patients to provide the best care by approaching them with empathetic, open communication and building strong, trusting relationships. She takes the time to listen to patients' concerns and involves them in the plan of care, ensuring they understand their care and feel empowered to make informed decisions.
Laurel always takes her positive attitude into the room with her. The patients appreciate her kind bedside manner.
"I am Accountable"
How has this nominee taken accountability for achieving outcomes?
She is accountable for helping coworkers and showing up to work daily. We can hold her accountable for being proactive regarding patient care. She is always willing to learn from colleagues and each patient care scenario she may encounter. All of this has built trust and respect and proves to show she is dependable on our team!
I often see that when outcomes are not met, the way we would like to be met as a team, we huddle and reflect on these situations. Laurel doesn't shy away from assessing what went well and what went wrong, learning from the situation, and adjusting her care. Her proactive attitude and commitment to continuous improvement reflect her dedication and accountability towards patients and our team.
Laurel gets the job done.
"I am a Leader"
How has this nominee implemented our Mission within their team, their department, their ministry, and the community?
Laurel always comes to work with such a positive attitude! She is always professional with every encounter and provides nothing but the best care to all her patients. She never judges anybody and is always trying to find a way to help others! Laurel is the silent leader in the background, quietly guiding the team through the strength of her actions rather than words. She leads by example, consistently demonstrating excellence in patient care, and professionalism. Whether it is staying late to tidy up a critical patient, providing support to colleagues during busy moments, or calmly managing challenging situations, her presence speaks volumes. Her impact is felt in the way others strive to mirror her approach.
Laurel is a quiet leader of the department. She is so easy-going and easy to work with. She leads by example.
Laurel has been a nurse in the ER for 25+ years. She has touched hundreds of lives and continues to do so every day! Her personality and wealth of knowledge should not be taken for granted! She is a leader in this department and is always willing to help wherever it is needed. It has been an honor to work alongside such an amazing person and nurse! I could not think of a more deserving person for this award!
Laurel is the nurse in the emergency department who is truly the unsung hero of our team. She is humble, kind, and quietly works to make a difference in the lives of others. She is never in the spotlight, but her presence in each room is shown through actions. She is the nurse who offers encouragement without seeking recognition, always ready to lend a helping hand, shares advice, and leads with empathy. She is grounded in her approach, she is the calm in the storm, always composed no matter the challenges that arise. You will never see her become flustered, even in the most stressful of situations. Her presence brings reassurance to me, other team members, and patients. She knows how to navigate chaos, always prioritizing the needs of others without allowing external factors to shake her calm demeanor. There are so many words and real-life examples that I can write about Laurel, but to truly know her and understand, you must be present when she is working. She is beyond exceptional and deserves this amazing reward.
It is hard to put into words the kind of person/nurse/coworker Laurel is. In a place where sometimes morale can be low (post traumatic patient, short staffed, etc.) Laurel never fluctuates in her attitude and outlook. She radiates positivity. She is always helpful, easy to work with and super kind. She is a quiet leader in her demeanor, but this does not mean the impact is small.
