Kristina's clinical skills and especially her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.
Kristina was recovering a patient. When the patient woke up, the doctor informed the patient that he was unable to complete the procedure and that she would have to come back and have it done again with one of the partners.
The patient was very upset. Kristina calmed the patient, explaining the importance of the test. She suggested that the patient could have the procedure performed the next morning. She went above and beyond to clear her plan with the clinical manager, anesthesia, and the doctor to meet the patient's needs and have the procedure at 7 AM before the regularly scheduled work day. She explained to the patient what we could do for her, again stressing the importance of doing the test because of family history. The patient eventually agreed to come back in the morning. Kristina reviewed with the patient to stay on clear liquids, do half the prep per her doctor's orders and be here at 630 AM.
As she walked the patient out to her ride, the patient thanked Kristina and gave her a hug. She showed compassion, concern, and caring for this patient. She knew this patient was very upset and knew the importance of having this test. She demonstrated remarkable concern for the comfort and happiness of her patient. The patient returned the next day and left happy that her test was completed.
