Kim has the personal character strengths of competence, compassion, confidence, calm, levity, honesty, and integrity.
Nomination 1
Kim goes out of her way to support staff. When I was dealing with dizziness episodes, Kim offered to drive me home. I was not safe to drive myself. Kim drove my car to my house while Nick drove me home in his car. This allowed them to have a car to go back to work, and my car made it back to my house. What extreme kindness!
Kim is positive and flexible. When one of her units is short-staffed, she will help out if needed/possible. Kim proved how many hours our PDR staff were picking up each week/month in Radiology. She showed that we required more full-time staff and got more hours approved. This greatly improved our staffing ratio.
Nomination 2
From the moment Kim Rose was hired as our nurse manager in Radiology, it was clear that she was up to the task of "righting the ship," with her understanding and availability. She committed to us and remains our dedicated advocate.
Kim's finest skill is listening, which allows her to provide feedback and develop collaborative engagement of our staff. Responses to concerns are swift and clear. If the issue is complex and beyond her ability to find a resolution, she explores options. I feel comfortable taking any concerns to her without fear of minimization or disinterest.
Kim meets the true definition of a leader and fulfills the motto "if you're gonna lead, lead!", shouldering responsibility and, on occasion, stepping into the "fray." A big part of why we are a competent, confident, and content staff can be attributed to Kim's leadership.
Nomination 3
Kim Rose, the radiology Manager, is hands down the best leader in the hospital. I would love to nominate her for the leadership DAISY role. She has single handedly made radiology the most sought after and best department to work for in the hospital.
Kim makes sure that the nurses and the team are taken care of first and foremost. She makes the work environment fun and safe and always encourages us to grow professionally. Kim encouraged me and gave me the confidence to go get my nurse certification and provided me with the arena to feel supported to study at work when we had downtime.
Kim listens at our quarterly meetings and works with us to make positive changes to our department, such as working with the call schedule to more accurately reflect the department's needs. Kim truly has an open-door policy and is always available for us.
At the Surgical Service Christmas party, Kim was nominated "most fun manager," as evidenced by her staff standing up and dancing the most at the party. Kim truly does care; she works harder than any manager I have ever worked for. I am inspired by her will to continue to grow academically and professionally. I am so impressed that she was able to obtain her master's in business this year without skipping one single beat on her managerial duties.
I have never been so happy as a nurse in my ten-year career, and it's truly because Kim has made the radiology work environment such a pleasant and amazing place to work.
Nomination 4
When thinking about the many variables that impact a work or team environment, it seems the most important always comes down to leadership. Everything else seems to be secondary to how a community of people is led.
That said, it is an honor to nominate Kim Rose as a model of excellence in her role as PACU manager. In the relatively short time that Kim has been in her position, she has brought much-needed change in morale, trust, mutual respect, and a sense of security in the department.
When Kim first came to our department, she created a truly open door where hearing from all the voices in the room mattered -not just the loudest or most frequent voices. She has an intentional willingness to hear many points of view before reacting, and an understanding that there can be more than one truth when faced with challenges. With that approach, she allows her staff to be seen.
This has been an essential element in bringing out the best in her staff, and in their ability to care for patients and for themselves as a whole team.
Nomination 5
Some of the most important contributions Kim has made to our department are a focus on really understanding our workflow and what we do at the ground level, hour by hour, in our specialty area.
In her hiring process, she puts high value on finding individuals with a strong base skill set necessary in the department, as well as a conscientious awareness of the balance of group dynamics in our unique physical work space. These things have really made a difference in how we can best support each other and our patients.
Additionally, one of the qualities most valued by staff is Kim's reliability in seeking answers to problems, responding to questions and concerns with timely follow-up, and validating that what matters to us in caring for patients also matters very much to her. Kim can always be counted on. And that quality is critical in the role of a leader.
Kim is very present in the department and is able to lend the "bedside nurse hand" that is sometimes needed to make a difference in the moment. One of Kim's greatest strengths is how well she communicates with staff in the day-to-day, so staff feel. supported on many levels. She makes a point of knowing her staff as individuals -their strengths and vulnerabilities -and this creates that sense of trust and security necessary from a leader.
Kim has the personal character strengths of competence, compassion, confidence, calm, levity, honesty, and integrity. In her daily work, Kim represents the five Core Values and Mission of St. Pats. The difference she has made in our department is profound.
Thank you, Kim, for what you do for the entire team of PACU nurses. You make a difference in how we are able to provide care -the thing that matters to us most of all.
