How does this leader create an environment that is healing and supports empowered professional practice?

Justin comes into work and makes my day. Justin is a very good Leader! He is very helpful on 7Main. He has such a big heart! He comes out to help out when the floor is a mess. He is always checking on his staff on the unit. He definitely deserves his flowers for being such a wonderful help. Justin is understanding and provides a safe environment to his staff.

Staff feel safe and comfortable bringing concerns to Justin and even trust him to discuss difficult times they may be experiencing outside of work. At the same time, they even enjoy a good joke with Justin, as he is known on the unit to be quite the jokester and storyteller! 7 Main has grown under his leadership and is now recognized as a unit with a positive culture.

Justin is able to maintain a balance of enjoyment, with staff feeling supported, while maintaining nursing practice standards. He came to 7 main and changed it for the better. He helps everyone, he listens and there when you need him. Our leader makes his presence known on the floor. He is very knowledgeable and answers all our questions. Positive empowerment to colleagues, approachable.

How does this leader influence quality patient care?

He is very involved with the PCAs. Justin helps out patients on the unit as needed. He always communicates with all patients on the unit as well, the patients love Justin. Justin maintains high expectations for staff regarding quality care. Quality bundles are monitored for compliance and Justin rounds the unit frequently to ensure high quality care is being provided in addition to offering real time coaching and assistance. He makes sure we do our jobs efficiently. Makes staff accountable by providing care using Penn State policy. Communicating policies and standard of care and making is accessible, demonstrating RITE values.

How does this leader demonstrate positive recruitment and retention strategies/outcomes?

Justin listens to us, communicates with us. Justin always comes and talks to everyone as a team to make sure we all on the same page. He makes sure there is no confusion happening, and that everyone is okay and ready to start the day! Justin has made a significant impact on staffing for 7 Main.

How does this leader demonstrate effective utilization of resources?

Justin is always on the floor with us. Justin will talk to everyone and show the unit what is the correct way of doing things and what is the wrong way. Justin monitors unit spending via Stratta, implements decreased use of agency staff with staffing improvements, and monitors unit orders and repairs. He always checks on us. He always makes sure he can do what he can to make us comfortable. Hands on, always on patient care. Justin does not walk pass call bells and is not shy when dealing with patient problems. Making resources accessible and education on usage.
