Jordan coordinated with our charge RN and used critical decision-making to quickly assign many trauma-trained members to different trauma bays and rooms throughout the department.
I am nominating Jordan Rentzel for a DAISY Award because of her professionalism and the caring nature that she continually shows to both her patients and her co-workers. I have worked with her for four years now, and she has always shown empathy for her patients, offers knowledge and wisdom to her co-workers, and consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic.
Jordan was the flow RN in the Emergency Department when we got the call about the hostage/shooting incident at UPMC Memorial. Jordan coordinated with our charge RN and used critical decision-making to quickly assign many trauma-trained members to different trauma bays and rooms throughout the department. Jordan was thoughtful in her actions and remained calm throughout the entire situation. I have no idea how she remained so collected, but she truly was a rock in that department that day.
After the traumas had gotten to their definitive places, Jordan reached out to all the nurses involved and continued to throughout not only that shift but the following shifts as well. She coordinated coverages for the team members involved in the incident to meet with the Governor and participate in the Honor Walk for the fallen officer.
The next day, Jordan also coordinated another shift coverage to have the nurses involved partake in another Honor Walk for a different patient who was being discharged home from the incident. Jordan reached out to us when we were not at work to check on our well-being, and allowed us to vent and offered kind words.
That next Friday, Jordan once again coordinated with the charge RN to find coverage to enable the nurses who took care of the fallen officer to have the chance to watch the live funeral with each other in the Zen Den. Personally, I don’t think I could have watched the funeral by myself because of my emotions. Jordan made it possible to watch it with our co-workers, so that we did not have to watch it alone, allowing us to be more comfortable and supported while watching with our co-workers.
Jordan continually supports staff members, not only on this particular day/week, but also on any day that Jordan is at work. She makes sure everyone is okay by doing frequent rounding and asking each nurse if there's anything she can do to help. She is an amazing team player, and we are so lucky to have someone like her in this department.
