Jill not only updated the technical components of the station but also introduced innovative, learner-centered approaches to improve knowledge retention and clinical judgment among new graduate nurses.
It is with great pleasure that I nominate Jill Jochum, RN, for the DAISY Award in recognition of her outstanding dedication, initiative, and commitment to nursing education. Recently, I assumed responsibility for the UHS Residency Program and requested to meet with a small group of Nurse Educators to review the Urosepsis Simulation station materials. Although this station does not fall under Jill’s direct responsibility, I invited her to participate due to her extensive experience in the Emergency Department and clinical insight.
During our meeting, Jill offered thoughtful and practical suggestions to enhance the simulation materials. What truly stood out to me was her immediate willingness to volunteer to take the lead in revising and updating all of the educational content. She embraced this responsibility with enthusiasm and professionalism, despite it being outside her required duties. Jill not only updated the technical components of the station but also introduced innovative, learner-centered approaches to improve knowledge retention and clinical judgment among new graduate nurses. Her forward-thinking contributions will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on our Residency Program and, ultimately, patient care outcomes.
She consistently demonstrates a deep commitment to bridging knowledge gaps, fostering critical thinking, and supporting her colleagues. Her collaborative spirit and proactive mindset make her an exceptional nurse educator and a valuable team member. Jill embodies the values and compassion that the DAISY Award represents. It is an honor to recognize her dedication to excellence in nursing education and her unwavering support of both patients and peers.
