She is patient, conscientious, and a thoughtful listener.
My mom is an 80-year-old woman who fell and fractured her C2–C3 vertebrae. She came to St. Francis for 2 weeks to be treated. My mom had a lot of pain, reduced mobility, was fearful and anxious, and considered a fall risk because of her fall. Jewel served as my mom’s nurse for several days, and we had an opportunity to get to know her. Jewel shows outstanding nursing skills.
Jewel appears to be extremely organized with her work. She was on time when it was time for mom’s medication, especially her pain meds. The family requested that she be given something for pain, and Jewel always responded promptly. She always clearly communicated with the family regarding the medications she was giving. She patiently worked with the family, educating us on the side effects of the medications as well.
We worked closely together, problem-solving how to manage my mom’s pain. She promptly communicated our concerns and questions to Mom’s doctor. Jewel always followed all safety precautions to prevent falls and used appropriate hygiene guidelines. Jewel has excellent communication skills. She is patient, conscientious, and a thoughtful listener. She worked closely with us to pinpoint issues with the pain meds and medical care. She informed the doctor and helped to problem-solve.
We grew to trust her judgment. Jewel provided valuable advice with intelligence and kindness to help prepare Mom for her new rehabilitation environment and expectations. I would use the following words to describe Jewel’s character: bright, skilled, thorough, compassionate, kind, patient, gentle, joyful, and nonjudgmental.
Serving my mom required a lot from nurses. She had mobility issues, was dealing with a lot of pain, and required a lot of encouragement to help build her confidence and independence. Jewel was always patient and kind, never hurrying her and never speaking to her unkindly or sarcastically. Jewel’s care was warm and compassionate. She treated my mom like a person deserving of love and compassion, not just another patient or burden.
