Dr. Henson goes above and beyond to make her classes engaging and meaningful, ensuring that every student feels valued and supported.
I was stressed out about a situation that had nothing to do with her or her class. She took the time to hear me out and talk through it. She followed up later in the day to check up as well. She genuinely cares for her students!!
I am honored to nominate Dr. Henson for the DAISY Award because she embodies what it means to be an exceptional educator, mentor, and nurse. She is not just a professor but a compassionate and dedicated advocate for her students. Dr. Henson goes above and beyond to make her classes engaging and meaningful, ensuring that every student feels valued and supported. She fosters a welcoming environment where students are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and discuss any concerns openly. One of the things that makes her so special is her incredible memory and genuine care for her students. She always takes the time to ask, "How are you?"—and she truly means it. If you’ve shared something with her weeks ago, she will remember and follow up, showing just how much she values her students beyond the classroom.
Nursing school can be incredibly challenging, and bad days are inevitable, especially during exams. Dr. Henson always reminds us, "It's okay to have a bad day or even to have one bad score." She never lets her students give up, instead offering encouragement and reassurance when we need it most. Her kindness extends beyond the classroom. I experienced her unwavering support when I had an emergency outside of school. Even though I didn’t have a class that day, I woke up to a message from Dr. Henson checking in on me at 6:00 am and making sure I was okay. That simple yet thoughtful act speaks volumes about the type of person she is. She is always willing to listen, offer advice, and be a source of comfort when needed. Dr. Henson is more than deserving of this DAISY Award. Her passion for teaching, her unwavering support, and her genuine care for her students make a lasting impact on everyone she teaches. It is a privilege to learn from her, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.
