Every breath she helped me take was a breath I owe to her courage and selflessness.
I am honored to nominate my mom for the DAISY Award, not just because she is an Extraordinary Nurse, but because of the life-saving difference she made on a day that no mother should ever have to experience.
Ten years ago, I attempted to take my own life. At that moment, everything seemed lost, but my mom refused to let me go. Without hesitation, she rushed into action, performing CPR with a skill and urgency that can only come from years of training, combined with an overwhelming love that only a mother could have.
I can’t imagine what she must have been feeling, seeing me in that way. The fear, the heartbreak, and yet, despite it all, she pushed every personal emotion aside and focused solely on one thing: saving my life. In the face of something that no one should have to face, she remained calm and decisive, demonstrating not just her expertise but an unmatched form of care. Every breath she helped me take was a breath I owe to her courage and selflessness.
That day, she didn’t just save me as a patient; she saved me as her child. And it wasn’t just her technical ability; it was her heart. It was her refusal to give up on me when everything seemed hopeless. It was the compassion that she brings to every situation, always putting the needs of others first, no matter how heavy the emotional weight may be.
Her actions that day are a testament to the kind of nurse she is: not only skilled and knowledgeable but deeply compassionate, unshakable under pressure, and steadfast in her dedication. She has always approached her work with a sense of purpose and devotion that goes beyond the call of duty, but what she did for me at that moment stands as the most profound example of her commitment to saving lives, even when those lives are the ones she loves the most.
My mom embodies everything the DAISY Award stands for. She is a nurse who goes beyond the clinical, who is always present, always compassionate, and always willing to make the difference between life and death. I am here today because of her, and I will never be able to fully express the depth of my gratitude. Her strength, courage, and love make her a true hero. Not just in the hospital, but in my life.
